Bold text makes a word stand out where there is no bold button: an Instagram bio, a LinkedIn post, a tweet or a profile name. Type above to get 𝐁𝐨𝐥𝐝 or 𝗕𝗼𝗹𝗱.
Serif bold vs sans-serif bold
Unicode offers two bold alphabets. Serif bold (𝐀𝐁𝐂) has the classic feet of a book or newspaper and feels formal. Sans bold (𝗔𝗕𝗖) is cleaner and is the one most used on social media. Both include bold digits (𝟏𝟐𝟑 / 𝟭𝟮𝟯), great for prices and lists.
When you don't need it
WhatsApp and Discord already have native bold: *text* in WhatsApp chats and **text** in Discord messages. Use Unicode bold where those don't work: names, bios, statuses and LinkedIn posts, where a bold first line helps people click «see more».
Bold one or two words, not whole paragraphs. Search engines don't read these characters as normal words, so keep important keywords in plain text.
